Isn't WB cutting corners everywhere due to financial concerns? If the DCEU has burnt itself out, and its last remaining stars are not precisely saints in the eyes of the public, the best thing is to let it rest for a while. Major spending in something like this with the economy wobbling is not wise. Especially if they don't have the talent to make it work.
Hell, didn't they basically give the CW away for free because of its massive losses? Selling DC should be the last resort, though, the IPs still have enough weight, they will eventually recover.
