"Demand for the PlayStation 2 remained strong throughout much of its lifespan, selling over 1.4 million units in Japan by March 31, 2000. Over 10.6 million units were sold worldwide by March 31, 2001."

I know that, back then Europe always got consoles a year or so later than Japan it was the same with PS1. This doesn't change that PS5 is tracking ahead of PS2, PS2 was hampered by not having a global launch and PS5 hampered by supply shortages.
