That's what they've been doing already for the most part. Monolith Soft. has more than triple the amount of employees they had 10 years ago, and I'd consider them the MVPs of Nintendo during that timeframe. I'd love to see them grow to the point where they can develop their own 2 franchises (Xenoblade + new IP) plus 1 of Nintendo's IPs that have long since been dormant (Kid Icarus, anyone?) Intelligent Systems has been a little slower with their growth, but they have been growing. They've got 1 of their own (Fire Emblem) and 1 of Nintendo's (Paper Mario). And with Advance Wars getting a remake, if that does well, perhaps they'll get a little more manpower to bring that franchise back so that it's 2 & 1 for them. I'd love to see what Next Level Games has to offer themselves on top of Luigi's Mansion. And while it may be unlikely, I'd like to see Nintendo officially purchase MercurySteam, make them their in-house 2D Metroid team and also give them the green-light to come up with their own franchise as well. As interesting as that Western IP strategy would be to see, the chances of that happening are very slim. |
They might use some of that money for Intelligent Systems, but keep in mind they do not own them.
