This. Before, at any given time, Nintendo was always splitting development teams and time up between a console and handheld. Maybe the new Zelda would be on 3DS - or maybe Wii. Maybe a new Metroid on GBA - or maybe GameCube. And it's not like that was ever a bad idea, but now - everything goes to Switch. It has such an incredible first-party lineup already, but the thing is, I truly believe Nintendo is just getting started with their development teams bringing a ton of original games to it.
And clearly, based on Nintendo's own data with Switch Lite sales and polls of whether people play it portable or docked, there are a LOT of people who enjoy the mobile nature of the Switch. So making a new next-gen traditional console, and no new handheld to go with it, I think is out of the question. And although there is always the possibility of Nintendo making a "docked-only" console and a dedicated handheld again in the future, I just really think that would be the wrong call.
