Been binging on RE7+8 and hadn't watched anything in a while. Made up for it over this three day weekend.
Mare of Easttown: Didn't like it quite as much as the critics did, but it is a decent detective miniseries. Pretty melancholic but earns its brighter moments. Good performances and camera work. Lots of twists and turns but it can be tough to keep all the names and relationships straight. SNL did a good parody.
Those Who Wish Me Dead: I fell in love with Taylor Sheridan's work after the 3 hit combo of Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River. He definitely knows how to inject some modern Americana into a good crime thriller. Unfortunately his recent work seems to be on a downward trend. This one was pretty undercooked and a bit cheesy. Decent performance by the kid, though.
Cruella: It's tough to balance a villainous protagonist, even more so within the limitations of a Disney film. They do an okay job. Emma chews the scenery pretty nicely and the design teams have a ball. A stylish bit of spectacle.
A Quiet Place pt. 2: Nearly as capable as the original, just missing some of the first's novelty and its perfect ending. More of what you liked about the first with a bit more action to replace the lost mystery. Had the bad luck of getting a theater with awful coil whine distracting from the quiet moments, though.
