It's not my favorite Nintendo IP, but neither is Pokemon either, but I wouldn't deny it's an incredibly important IP.

I'd take a F-Zero or Advance Wars over a new Pokemon or Animal Crossing, but I can't with a straight face say those IP are more important than a Animal Crossing or Pokemon.

I never said it wasn't important, it's undeniably one of Nintendo's biggest franchises, the thread though was which people think are the best. SNES got my vote not just because of majorly popular ones like Mario Kart and DKC, but also because, as irrelevant as they've become by now, Starfox and F-Zero had some games I truly intensely loved.

SNES vs N64 is tough ...

Super Mario Kart, DKC, Star Fox, F-Zero, Pilotwings, Yoshi platformer series (yeah I would also say this was basically a new IP), Tetris Attack/Panel de Pon

Versus

Super Mario 64 (which I do consider the start of a new "franchise" in effect), Super Smash Bros., Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, Mario Party, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf.

But if you factor in Rare stuff too ... Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark, GoldenEye, Jet Force Gemini, Blast Corps, Diddy Kong Racing, Conker ... it becomes fairly lop sided. Unfortunately Nintendo sold their interest in Rare, but at the time they were basically considered part of Nintendo.
