Yeah I remember the countless times I saw people declaring it game of the year before it even came out and how it was going to destroy The Last of Us Part II. I knew it wasn’t going to after watching all the videos leading up to release.  Nothing about the gameplay looked good.  I think CD Projekt Red is extremely overrated- Witcher III included.  That had a bunch of issues too when it released - but even after all of the patches I could never get into the game - the combat was so bland and the protagonist so boring.

I'm glad I'm not the only one, Witcher 3 is one of the most boring games I played for sure, it just shows that good marketing and hype can sell almost anything. It still boggles my mind that you can't aim your crossbows, only blindly shoot in the direction of enemies, but I haven't seen anyone care about that. Maybe next time they can make a shooter where you don't have to aim and people still won't notice and care? I was most interested in seeing the great side quests that everyone was raving about, I played 50 hours and didn't find any interesting side quest, I guess most people have really low standards if they think they are great in Witcher 3. The final boss glitched for me, he was standing still the whole time while I was chopping him and I was only thankful for that, too bad I didn't record it and put it on youtube, game of the year everybody, for the gamers.

Same for me. I think that while technically they are pretty competent, the Witcher series is in general pretty overrated. In all honesty, it brought nothing new to the table. The writing was half-decent because it was based on the books, but as soon as CD Project lost that and tried something new (Cyberpunk) it was obvious that they couldn't manage. 8 years of development and all that they managed to do is release the biggest disappointment of the year.

I hope people learn from this. Man how many times I was outright attacked for simply pointing out some of the red flags that Cyberpunk showed off. I hoped that it will turn out great, but the cynic in me never truly bought it.

OT: GG TLOU 2. Loved the game, definitely my GOTY, but all around this was a great year to be a gamer.
