Just Finished: Kingdom Hearts Final Mix HD (as part of Kingdom Hearts All-in-One Package) (PS4)

I asked for the original Kingdom Hearts as a birthday present when I turned 10 all the way back in 2002. I did not know really anything about the game except it had a great commercial and let you play through Disney movies. Besides the Pokemon games on Game Boy, Kingdom Hearts was probably my introduction into RPGs, definitely Action RPGs. I don't think Square did a good job at all communicating what kind of game this is especially aimed at kids. I really didn't take the RPG elements seriously at the time. I never completed the game and got stuck at the final boss. I think I still I have my original PS2 copy somewhere in the house. 18 years later I bought the Kingdom Hearts All-in-One Package on sale and decided it was time to finally play through the whole series. 20 hours (+18year) I finally completed Kingdom Hearts. I beat all the forms of Ansem on my first try (10 year old me can suck it). Supposedly Square lost the game's original source code so the game was built from the ground up for the PS3 HD remaster. The 60 fps does wonder for the fluidity of the animation and gameplay. The music is phenomenal of course. Only now that I am older and wiser do I realize how much of a button masher this game is. Even in the first game the story is overwrought and impossible to understand (again, this game was marketed towards children!). The original crossover concept is still charming. The difficulty spike towards the end of the game is horrendous. When the game just spams Heartless at you sometimes it made me want to just rush through things. Who thought the Winnie the Pooh section should be included in this game? Overall this was a nostalgic and therapeutic experience. It set a solid foundation for a solid series. 6 more games to go.
