Quite possible, as many may hold off on purchasing it until they make the transition to next gen.
I'd guess they're trying to kill two birds with one stone. Not only are they getting out of the way of a busier than normal, and more quality filled, early portion of the year, but they just may be able to tap into that GTAV late gen magic.
GTAV didn't come to next gen for about a year, but what if it had come almost right away?

PS2 - @- We must build a console that offers online living room gaming.
PS3 - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.
PS4 - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.
PRO -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.
PS5 - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.
PRO -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.
