Whether people like it or not, E3 is becoming increasingly irrelevant in today's video game industry. Setting up huge press conferences and booths is expensive, and companies can quite easily achieve the same level of hype by putting up videos online. I'd like it if Sony would put a State of Play video out around E3, but them not participating in E3 wouldn't surprise me at all.
