And as for last year's Game Awards, yeah, no. Once again, speak for yourself. Joker being revealed as the first DLC fighter for Smash Ultimate was HANDS DOWN the best thing about that entire show not because of what it was, but for what it meant. It pretty much opened the floodgates for all kinds of possible characters in Smash Bros that a lot of people didn't think would be possible or unlikely. You may not care for the series and that's fine, but it certainly was not trash by any means. 

I'm not sure how current meme boy Joker being in Smash correlates with established, even legendary characters from franchises that should be there (like Dragon Quest or Banjo and after Street Fighter, SNK) being part of the DLC.

Because people thought Nintendo would just play it safe with the DLC and not do anything too over the top with who they pick as DLC fighters for Smash Bros. And then BOOM, Joker from Persona 5! Who the hell saw that one coming?! If he could get in the game, there was no reason or excuse whatsoever anymore why Banjo, Hero, and Terry couldn't get in. Now characters like Sora, Shantae, Sephiroth, and Geno don't seem so far-fetched anymore. Anyone, ANYONE, is fair game now as long as they originated from a video game.
