Yeah, the internet mob is the problem. We have no means whatsoever to ever really obtain the truth. For that we have courts of law, and even them have difficulties to get to the core truth. But an internet mob, an employer, a news outlet has not nearly the same principles that make the finding of the truth in a court more likely. That is why I consider such stuff just as a pure rumor: maybe true, maybe not, maybe something else. I have no means to know better.
And this mean an internet outrage over such accusations shouldn't destroy anyone. If the accusations have substance the person can be judged in court and the courts of law also serve punishment if appropriate. But punishment based on internet uproar is wrong.
