See, Xbox might not had the same stellar success the Playstation brand had, but they are far from failing. MS has established itself as an console maker, has a constant albeit not stellar track record and is still expanding. They've beaten Nintendo twice. Sooo, I would say their methods did work. If you don't believe me, look at all the really failed attempts at joing the game industry: Bandais Wonderswan, Apples Pippin, NECs PC Engine, Valves Steambox.
