I'm not a fan of either. I prefer the Adventure mode from Melee. I'm not looking for a sprawling single player story mode (with or without story cutscenes) in Smash. Classic, Adventure and some Multiman modes plus a few mini games are enough for me, like Home Run, Break the Targets, Board the Platforms etc. My main focus is on the multiplayer mode so when I'm not in there I just prefer something quick to get a highscore with one of the characters.
