While I would also love a 2D Zelda, I don't think the devs would have had enough time yet to develop one. Only one year has passed since the BotW DLC, that's clearly not enough time to develop a game. In the meantime, you could play Zelda I and II on the Switch like I do |
Even with the Breath of the Wild DLC, I'm extremely doubtful that the entire team was working on the DLC all at once.
We're coming up on 2 years since the release of Breath of the Wild, and the game actually went gold two years ago this month. So, if we consider that a good chunk of the Zelda team decided to switch gears and starting making a new 2D Zelda game while the rest of the team worked on the DLC, that would mean that a new 2D Zelda game has been in development for 2 years now, with the 2nd year being when they went all in on the developing the game. Furthermore, considering that 2D Zelda does not take anywhere near as much time and resources to make as the open world style like Breath of the Wild, or even the classic 3D styled formula of Ocarina of Time to Skyward Sword, I think 2 1/2 - 3 years is more than enough time to pump out a great, high quality 2D Zelda game.
