1. Civilization. Or colonization. Probably any part of the series, although some are better than others. The classic turn-based grand strategy game.

2. Starcraft. Not the abomination that is Starcraft 2, but the original Starcraft. This is real-time-strategy at it's best.

3. The Secret of Monkey Island. LucasArts were the masters of Point-and-click-adventures, and this one is the most acknowledged of their work.

4. Baldur's Gate. This is the game, which brought the isometric pause-based RPGs with vast regions. And it is really good.

5. Doom and Doom II. The originals from back then (although the reboot is also good). These two games made FPS wildly popular. The engine is open-source and was ported now to each platform and has added features. Doesn't matter if you get the original or one of the spin-off engines like boom, prboom, gldoom, doomsday, zdoom or how these all are called.

6. Resident Evil. The original game. Not remade, but with original tank controls. This is a classic.

7. Duke Nukem 3D. You need to taste the Duke and all his banter and alien squishing power.

8. One of the Gold Box RPGs, like Pool of Radiance or Dragonlance. Good old classic RPG-goodness.

9. UFO: Enemy unknown. The great tactical game with destructible environments. It was revolutionary for it's times and still holds up well.

10. nethack or one of it's derivates. This is the classic roguelike (OK, I guess you could play also rogue itself). Ported to almost anything and costs nothing it is easy ot get and really hard to master. You should try at least once - or at least as long until you figure out to survive long enough to get some dungeon levels deep.

OK, I think ten is a good number for now, so I stop.
