Just so this doesn't get taken to the ridiculous, cause there's always a guy... That doesn't include meaningless lies. I mean lies that can lead to power shift in the country. They should be severely punished in order to send the message that it's not ok to manipulate voters. |
Oh, if you enforce this, we need a complete new set of politicians. And political journalists. I can't think of one, that hasn't at least bent the truth a little, or just pushed a news that wasn't verified in the least (and most likely false). I just learned, that the OPCW found no signs of an attack with chemical weapons in Ghouta (Syria) for this one incidence some months ago, which justified an airstrike on Syria. While Assad is as bad this means, many western politics used one completely unverified news to push their own political agenda (attack on Syria). Assad did the same in other incidents.
I just can't trust any news attached to a strong political agenda or strong political rift (on either side) as both sides push news that are true and that are untrue or unverified, as long as it fits their agenda. Sadly verifying informations often takes months, nobody cares anymore by then.
This happens for all sides: left or right, liberal or conservative, US or russia or europe or china, ...
I understand that you want a society where political decisions and agenda are rooted in verifyable and trustworthy information, but we are actually far far away from that. I have no idea how to fix that.
