That's very interesting. I certainty heard a few things so I believe you. Your story does line up. Though I'm curious as to why they would cut that arc entirely. I didn't think they actually filmed the scene with the Knights of Ren or even hired actors. I figured that being cut was the reason for a lot of the changes in the film. From Kylo's arc, the impact of Hans death, Rey's relevance, Snoke's importance to the over all lore. All those things would be directly impacted by the Knights of Ren. The inconstancies of plot points show very strongly to the point it's a lot of peoples complaint about the film. I would reckon that "a lot of people" are totally unaware of the this script. Which really goes to show that something went terribly wrong in development and they rolled with it anyways. Consistency is key in the Star Wars saga. That was the films biggest flaw. The humor and all the other change in directions are minor in comparison.

Out of curiosity. Which scripts would you say is better? The final one we got, or the one that you just read? Would you say that we got a fine film in the end and it all worked out? I mean from on point of view the movie is going to sell out regardless. It's Star Wars. Disney saved a butt load of cash taking the easy way out. The thing that is worse than budget limitation is the time limitation to get that movie out on the expected release date.

You really could say that they cut Snoke out of the story. LMAO!

 

My main thoughts after coming out of it, was that it was very familiar, and I don't mean it felt familiar in terms of "it's a star wars movie" it felt familiar in a "this came passed the same board of directors who sign off on all billion dollar movies from Disney" the pacing was very very in line with something more Marvel and Star Wars, I would almost say it was edited to the point of following beats on a flow chart as in

 

- Has there been a sad moment? Y > within 2 minutes there must be a happy moment or a flash of a nostalgic character which makes the audience smiles, N > consider fitting one in during the next 5 minutes of film, we must spread these evenly throughout the film run time!!

 

I mean, this even came into play with stuff like Arbar's death (May mon calimar heaven be ever free of traps) but for a very liked character, his death was a single line, it wasn't even granted a full line it's like they wanted to steer the movie well into the MCU laugh a minute stuff even at the cost of things like putting jokes and humour into War Machine having his spine broken and losing the ability to fly / walk, it makes for a fun and jolly cinema experience... but when you look back at the story and how it was told, I can't think of the cool moments of Rey talking to Kylo without that time when she is talking to him topless and she asks can be put on something to cover his chest, sure... it gets a chuckle, but at a cost of invading a serious scene with really bottom of the barrel humour, think about it... in another area of the Ship Snoke is monitoring that conversation facepalming the budding teen rom-com that he is hosting on his force connection.

 

When it comes to what was shot and then edited down to what we got on screen I think it really just didn't work out at all if I'm being honest though, sure, what was presented on screen was a serviceable movie, but when you go back and think about it, they shot so much extra of the original script that it's not shocking that Rey reacts strangely to some scenes, obviously an actor doing a scene immediately before being confronted by a army of Knights of Ren along with Kylo fighting her master to within an inch of his life is in a different emotional state to where she would be if she was just annoyed at having to chase Luke around the island while he gets his mouthful of blue milk.... cos... member it? member blue milk? member?

 

I just think they shot a movie as a complete solid story, then bought it into the editing room, and cut it to ribbons, having to hack out entire story arcs because any references to them in certain scenes then need to be cut away as well it leaves the movie feeling completely disjointed for me, so many portions of shots were left in... but without explanation or enough time to ever feel bad or get emotionally connected to them, we get a video call with Maz Kanata to have them go on a hunt for a particular code-breaker.... they end up getting half an emotional moment from Rose about how a city happy during a war is profiting from the misery....  but we never get anything extra on Maz... is she dead? what is she fighting against? That code breaker they were sent to get... really they just forget about him and go with the guy who can open a prison door? Did Finn and Rose get struck on the head and think that a thief capable of opening a door in a jail cell would be in line with the abilitys of the Code Breaker which Maz said she would trust with any job and having confirmed him as being trustworthy ally to someone who clearly fights the new order? I know there must have been other scenes where that thief proved his worth... but sadly we didn't see those, they ended up on the cutting room floor so what we get is 2 rebels showing that rebels are idiots and deserve to be wiped out.

 

Also the only Lightsaber battle of consequence was cut from the film because of the editing... sure we get Rey/Kylo fighting off the imperial guards around Snoke after his 1HITKO by Kylo but still... they're just dispatching henchmen more than having a 1 on 1 battle, also... there is Kylo V Luke, but that didn't really happen, Luke and Hans Dice (which he was nice enough to return a fabrication of to Leah lol) were not actually in that fight at all, he was sat on a rock enjoying the Irish coastline (it is beautiful to be fair to the guy

 

Yeah all in all it was a good movie which will easily breach the 1billion mark and it was shot in a way that it will get those same viewers back this time next year for another billion... but was it good? No, was it bad.... not really, it just wasn't anything special but it was branded Star Wars so it sells.
