I used to (and still kind of do) watch the Wii U and 3DS eShop sales very, very closely. Outside of once-in-stars-aligning type of events like the 30-year-old NES games for 30 cents, BOGO free game if you got Mario Kart 8 within a month of launch, and the sales for the Smash 4 launch, Nintendo only discounts its games up to 40 percent at the most. And those games that get to 30 or 40 percent tend to be games that are several years old, like VC and launch window games. Look at My Nintendo rewards to see what Nintendo typically thinks what a good idea of a sale is. Since the Switch isn't the sales abomination that was the Wii U, Nintendo doesn't have the incentive to do those sales that make you break your neck looking back like it did with the Wii U. Oh well, it's a good problem to have. |
50% sales in the eShop are not out of the ordinary. We've even seen some 60-70% during indie promotions.
Curve Digital once had a 1€ sale, that surprised me.
