Makes sense, the mainstream just isn't into the cyber punk jizz going on in geek circles. Of all the 80s/90s nostalgia jizz going on right now, cyber punk is just a niche. Using a cult classic name that was never really popular outside said nerd circles wasn't gonna help it either.

 

And yeah, remakes/sequels/reboots are dumb, Hollywood needs more originality. Where are all the new IPs that people decades from now want to reboot, when so much is just rehashed ideas right now.

Please refrain from making comments like this one without seeing the movie. Blade Runner 2049 is anything but a cash-grab. It's a movie in its own right, just set in the Blade Runner universe. Considered one of the best movies of the year and genre-redefining by me and many others.

Criticizing this movie as another remake/sequel/whatever as an attempt at making money is an insult not only to the movie but to film-making in general.
