All the major environmentalist groups ignored/continue to ignore the impact of eating meat on the climate. It doesn't matter if you save on water showering etc, because the water consumed by and for cattle to become food is significantly higher than humans combined could make up for it. |
They certainly do not. For example: http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/campaigns/agriculture/
The methan-emissions of cows are well known as a problem and make it to the reports of the IPCC. Methane is recalculated into CO2-equivalents (so that the problem can be expressed in one number), but as methane has more effect, 1 ton of methane is calculated into multiple tons of CO2-equivalents.
Also, even if the world would cut out meat-eating, the problem would surely be reduced, but it wouldn't go away. We can destroy our environments in many ways, excessive agriculture is onl yone of them.
