Is this Nintendo's way of trying to ensure kids don't use voice chat because kids aren't supposed to have access to phones? It's the only thing I can imagine this might possibly imagine to try and force a phone into this.

I mean it sounds ridiculous, but if any company in the game industry was going to make such an assumption, it would be Nintendo. I've learned to never make any assumptions about Nintendo's decision making over the years. Their reasoning for their decision making process sometimes is completely nonsensical.
