He's been fairly transparent about making videos that get people to click on them. And other than whatever indie game is big at the moment, nothing matches the attention that Nintendo games get. Especially Mario.
If he made a video called "Are the Helghan Empire the Good Guys," how many people would even know the video was about Killzone?
