No. Actually Afghanistan is pretty far away. Syria borders the mediterrean sea. So Cyprus (which is part of the european union and is located in the mediterrean sea) is not far away. Directly Syria does have borders with Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Turkey.
