720P and 60fps is NOT fine for VR. You should try using VR some time.
Correct to a point. |
Mario Kart 8 looks great in my opinion. Sure its not blow you away "pretty" by 2017 standards but its not exactly an eye sore either. And I'm only using it to reinforce the point a point about designing visuals and game worlds around a target resolution & fps. VR is about an immersive, compelling experience, this doesn't begin and end at how graphically impressive a game is or how much ai/physics etc you can fit on screen. People setting their sights first on those ambitions and latter on accessibility and gameplay is something that will hold VR back. The first VR game I played was an ugly rollercoaster simulator, it still blew me away. I'd rather play a game that looks and plays like a slightly more polished Metroid Prime 3 in VR than anything I've seen on PSVR (although REVII looks amazing).
If they just implemented some AA and used simpler textures which don't scale poorly, this would be perefectly acceptable for a VR experience. This is a game that is natively 480, 60fps on the Wii specs which only marginly better than the 2001 gamecube specs.
