You're doing exactly what a uncle/aunt is supposed to do - allow them to do stuff that their parents won't.

Regarding the real OP, I'm not aware of any real evidence that 3D causes any problems. It's just one of those things that has been repeated a whole bunch, so people start to think it's true.
