So gyms were a critical part of the game for you then, I assume? Because that's the only place right now where cheaters can affect you unless I'm forgetting something.

Gyms are an essential part of the game. It gives you more stuff to do, like leveling up your pokemons or trying to capture pokemons with strong IV to conquer gyms and winning these places is the only way you can earn in game money without using your credit card.
