According to the most recent sales charts we have here, we have a Pokemon game at #2 and at #5 and both of them are well over a year old. Thats really good and yeah, I'd consider that flying off the shelves.
Further, Pokemon GO made a ridiculous amount of money. Add in boosts to other Pokemon games and Pokemon merch and I struggle to agree when you say that anything else would have been "wiser". No matter how you slice it, Nintendo games on mobile is looking pretty damn "wise".
