There's some risk, but I think it's managable. Like I said Blackberry has a setup that lets them have their own OS but still have Android apps.
The upside is too big to ignore, and like I said Nintendo can't dictate to kids. They have to adapt to what kids want and they want those apps. There's just no arguing it, and the strategy of trying to force kids to carry two devices (a tablet/phone and a 3DS) hasn't gone great either, kids overwhelming chose the tablet/phone.
