Having a battery in line with Vita is a realistic expectation. 

3-6 hours depending  on the game you're playing, 8+ for non gaming applications seems about right.

Both devices used one of, if not the most powerful mobile chips for their respective year (2011-2016)

It is realistic, does not make it anyless shitty. Sadly our society/culture/businesses have not valued Battery life as much as Power.
