Okay let me phrase this in this way, when PlayStation 4 S releases, and no white model comes with it, and the white PlayStation 4 is not replenished, would you say the PlayStation 4 has a shortage? (This is hypothetical situation)
Color variation offers users choice and some consumers heavily value that, I know back in the day, since it does not deprive consumers of the device.
I would want White PS3 because Black PS3 just looked ugly, but I had no choice in color, I still bought the device.
It is like Black/Purple Gamcube, or the 3DS in the two/three colors that it chooses to keep up. 3DS and DS have sold out of those colour variations in the past as well, and they typically only have two or three options at a given time frame.
So that is why I say an actual shortage is happening this weekend, and might reflect this week sales and next weeks and so on.
