Actually Miyamoto wasn't clear at all especially because Nintendo rarely says something so soon in advance like next 3D Mario will definitely be at next E3 or definitely will not be there, also Miymoto never said holiday 2017.

Mario 3D World was finished in 2013, I personally expect to see new 3D Mario at NX reveal and definitely is 2017. game in any case.

He didn't say holiday 2017, but the holiday season is when 3 out of the 4 last 3D Mario games have come out. I don't see it at launch or as a summer title.
