It's not hard having the "best reviews and ratings from fans" though. Most fans of any product are very indulgent and conformist.

He probably meant gaming fans, not Nintendo fans. So even if he's getting his facts wrong, I think he means that there are more critically acclaimed exclusives on the Wii U than on the other 2 consoles.

And the less popular the product, the more likely those who bought in will be fanatical about it.

Again, I don't think he meant Wii U or Nintendo fans. I think he meant gamers in general.

This. I keep saying this. Launching with Mario Maker would have changed a lot! Releasing Splatoon in the first year of the console would also have helped a lot. Sales would have been much higher because people buy consoles early when they're optimistic about the kinds of games they would get in the future, and Mario Maker and Splatoon in the first year would have really sold the gamepad idea.
