Am I really seeing people play "everybody picks on Nintendo" card? On VGC? The place where you say one slightest thing out of place (justified or not) against Nintendo and you get a shit storm?
So what is exactly wrong of predicting Nintendo dropping hardware? Hardware will carry a bigger financial risk than software so why roll the dice every gen and chance ending up losing big. Not only can poor hardware sales lose you money but it vastly reduces the install base to sell your first party games. First party games have always been Nintendo's strongest point so why not play to those strengths?
Nintendo have a good catalogue of IP's and IP's that will sell well on mobile and appeal to casual gamers (Sony and MS can not even come close to the wide appeal of Nintendo games). So now they have a taste of mobile, do they take the "easy" road and pump all their resources into mobile? Where they are guaranteed a huge install base? Not have to worry about making hardware and if it will fail or succeed. Will the NX be the final chance for hardware to prove itself? Will Nintendo phase out home consoles and go with mobile and handhelds?
Because I'm putting these questions forward doesn't mean I want Nintendo to fail. In fact it will be a sad day if Nintendo stops making hardware but this doesn't stop Nintendo making business decisions that they see best going forward for them and is out of our control
