Well they actually made this claim in June 2015, with the implication that they would continue to support the Wii U strongly ... and uh ...
Well I guess in a volume sense they released an OK number of Wii U games since then, but in an effort sense they clearly bailed out on this system so the statement was somewhat misleading as some people took it to mean things like a Metroid U and Animal Crossing U would happen. In that sense, Nintendo lied out their ass.
Just a matter of what you consider "support" to be.
