A lot of people have already pointed out numerous examples of great metal singers, so I'm not going to list of too many, but a few good examples would be Bruce Dickinson, Michael Kiske, Rob Halford and Ian Gillan. They are all on the older, more traditional side of metal.
I do have to question the choice of Fred Durst as an example of a good singer. I find very few redeeming qualities in his singing, metal or not. Just seems like a very odd example to list, and for a moment actually made me wonder if this thread was just some pointless bait attempt.
