Thats sounds dumb but as well as the Wii sold its sales fell in later life and got overtaken by both 360 and PS3 on a weekly basis, that doesn't happen to the most popular console. Wii wasn't the legacy system of its generation. Imo the most popular consoles have been:
Last gen its hard to say, I'd go for PS3 although its close with the 360. They've both been supported longer and have higher software sales than Wii. They're simply 'cooler'. Its common in pop culture for the Wii to be made fun of, after a huge 3 years it became a bit of an embarrassing joke. |
Popularity varies with region and within those regions by demographic.
Technically demographics themselves vary by region, but we assume they aren't that different based on region and generalize them together.
For instance, a gamer (non-casual) in the U.S is definetly distinct from a UK or Japanese Gamer, but they are similar enough that we tend to make generalizations about all gamers.
At the same time, without knowledge of how another culture actually operate such assumptions can just as easily be wrong.
For example, here in the U.S, its commonly held that the Wii sold most to casuals, but that can easily be very different abroad.
The Wii selling a lot less later in life has more to do with its legs as a platform, software attach rate, and end of life support.
