Nintendo kind of crosses a line with Badge Arcade. With other "free-to-start" games like Steel Diver, Pokemon Rumble, etc, you spent money on something relatively tangible, be it vehicles or in-game currency, and they could be largely ignored. Here, you aren't guaranteed anything even if you spend money, and that price tag frequently visits the bottom screen.
I downloaded this, and will likely use a couple of badges to label folders. Having all of my NES Virtual Console games in the folder with the 8-bit Mario sprite works better than any alternative available. But this is a troubling step.
