Why is censorship still a thing..? Especially in US?

It's stupid but a business decision after all.

Censoring sexual stuff might give the game a lower rating in the US and thus a broader audience to sell it to and censoring violence in Germany allows them to advertise the game and display them in stores.

But no one really forces them to censor anything.
