Amazon had a major problem with Nintendo, so you're right, that probably had something to do with it.  They stopped selling the 3DS for awhile and didn't sell the Wii U at all for a very long time.  It obviously wasn't a very friendly relationship.

Only the US branch, not sure about Canada? Over here in Europe the distribution problems did not occur, consoles (3DS and WiiU) were even offered at a discount price at launch.
