That's just how the business goes. It takes a long tine to get productions going so sometimes a film slate works out well sometimes it doesn't. Sony was number 1 in 2012 Thanks to Skyfall and Spiderman. Look at Universal, last year their top earner was the low budget Neighbors which surprisingly grossed $150 million. This year they already have 5 movies that made more money.
