Focusing on the past five or so years...
High Sales
- Animal Crossing: New Leaf's Week 1 in Japan, almost immediately becoming the best-selling 3DS title.
- Youkai Watch's immediate success in Japan, especially the second game.
- The PS4 dominating the 8th generation so throughly.
- GTAV selling quite as well as it did (45 million or so on consoles vs 21 million for GTA4) and on two generations of consoles.
- Persona 4 on the Vita selling well across regions despite the Vita's userbase.
- The Just Dance series coming out of nowhere and being huge for a couple of years.
- Link's Crossbow Training being a thing that succeeded.
- Kinect was insanely popular in 2010 and 2011 despite few great games.
- Minecraft's retail versions.
- Skyrim selling 15 million on consoles, over twice as much as Oblivion, in an era where an online focus was considered increasingly essential.
Low Sales
- The Wii U's failure to ever secure momentum.
- The decline of "Wii Generation" series like Wii Fit, Nintendogs, and Cooking Mama.
- God of War Ascension and Gears of War: judgment were both released in March 2013 ands both had far lower sales than their predecessors, each called GoW3.
- Guitar Hero and rock Band plummeting in a couple of years.
- Madden is still relevant, but its decline since its PS2 Golden Age is remarkable considering how football itself isn't notably less popular in North America.
