People may love Superman but you would still fear him until he becomes the hero all the time. Right now, you cannot say that Superman did not just take out the competition. If you were going to take over the world yourself, it would probably be best to take out the competition so you have complete reign. No government would see Superman as a hero since there is nothing they can do to stop him. Just trusting Superman to be good when no one really knows him is a bigger leap of faith then Batman knocking Superman out.
