I don't have any issues with the on-rails gameplay (which mind you, isn't the whole game, but whatever), in fact I find it extremely fun and engaging. Ocarina of Time though, oh man... man did it feel outdated. The gameplay was slow and clunky, the "open" world was completely segmented with narrow pathways connecting everything, and there were some really stupid issues (text speed, slow menus, pausing to switch boots) that I don't think anyone in their right minds would have in a game nowadays. But whatever, I guess everyone will always keep saying it's the best game ever just because of powerful nostalgia and it being the first 3D Zelda and what not. |
The 3DS remake is pretty good. I still prefer the original due to nostalgia. Hence your point.
But people consider it the best game of all time because it flipped the industry upside-down. A lot of mechanics in games today draw their origins, in one form or another from Ocarina of Time.
