Do you own a DS Gling? Or have you looked a the DS library of late? DS has great AAA games, with Zelda HG and The World ends with you, but what you don't see, is 20 or so garbage games that release on to that platform.

With Nitendo's track record, it isn't a bad idea to even release a Seal of Quality again. At least it will be able to help their customers distinguish Nintendogs from the 1000 other crappy imitations out there.

While I'll admit that it'd be nice to not have to slog through so much crud when looking for the good DS games, I don't think the Seal of Quality would be at all productive for Nintendo. It was precisely those restrictions that caused resentment amongst third-parties, and Sony's brilliant maneuver in allowing publishers to sell whatever games they wanted is arguably a large part of their success. For Nintendo to go back to the old, restrictive days would do them more harm than good.

Besides, not all shovelware producers are inherently bad: Majesco, a shovelware maker if ever there was one, recently made the Cooking Mama games that a lot of people enjoy. For us, they're also releasing Blast Works, which EGM has just rated in the "A" range. (I know, I was shocked too.) Besides, look at it this way. WayForward, a company that's been bringing us stuff like "Sabrina: The Animated Series" for twenty years recently developed a little DS game called "Contra 4". 10,000 monkeys with typewriters and all that, right?
