Obviously it is a bad idea to live in a world with catastrophic events, super-villains, high crime-rate and bioterrorism and zombie-virus.

You didn't wrote that in your OP, that you hope (!) to aquire super-powers in the process. But given the choices I would prefer to aquire super-powers and live in our world.
