Unless you're Japanese you sure as heck didn't own an NES in 1983.

90% of NES owners in the West came after August 1987 (look at their own shipment data). I got my NES in the summer of 1989 for instance. For most people Nintendo replaced the NES in North America after only about 3 years.

No one back then cried about the Super NES launching in August 1991 other than a few grumpy parents. I remember every kid was over the moon about the idea of a SUPER FUCKING NINTENDO. We were excited. I remember seeing just the freaking title screen in Nintendo Power and saying "I must own this".

Today gamers on message boards have apparently become the grumpy parents. Go figure.

Your point? That was over 20 years ago...... COMPLETELY different world

What different world? The one today where everyone on this board is most likely able to get their own job and doesn't have to beg their parents for their game systems?

Or the one in which buying a new smartphone every 1-2 years is perfectly acceptable? The world in which an 8 year old has a $500 tablet so they can play Candy Crush and watch cartoons?

Meh, if anything you guys have it easy today. Whining about $60 games for example (which get discounted to $30 at every Best Buy after 6-8 months)? Try $90 for a brand new copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 ($150 or so with inflation) and get back to me. /end Cranky Kong rant.
