Because recent high profile cinematic games are getting poor reviews because of bad design in general. If these games were rockinbg 9/10s there wouldn't be any fuss. Cinematic games done right (the last of us, metal gear, the walking dead) tend to blow competition out of the water. When the next the Last of Us or BioShock type game comes out (looking like the order or shadow fall) minds will be blown and cinematic won't be taboo.

Exactly. The only problem here is that cinematic was used as a poor excuse for bad games.
