I think that's a pretty good prediction. I'm inclined to agree with you. It seems like there is more enthusiasm from people surrounding this game than Mario Kart 8. Mario Kart 8 is fun, but Smash is a must have.

At bold: I really don't like saying "hype", but that's basically what I was trying to say. I wish there was a better way to say it.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying. Since last E3 I've sensed way more excitement for Smash than for MK8.
(and by "last" E3 I mean last year)

"Sensed it where"?

I sensed more excitement for Bayonetta 2 than COD going by online message boards but that isn't the general community. Even the largest video game online forum is what NeoGaf with like 120,000 members? That's nothing in the grand scheme of things.

And Smash is benefitting in part due to MK8 building the userbase larger.

Smash will have a faster start than MK perhaps, but MK will out leg it in the end I think. Plus MK8 will be bundled with many Wii Us this holiday.

Smash is something the hardcore Nintendo community is exceptionally vocal about, much like Zelda, but in actuality there are more fans of things like Mario platformers (than Zelda) and Mario Kart (vs. Smash) when the family/kid demo is factored in.
