Let's explain it with gargantuan gravity indeed lol. That planet should be one big vulcano and/or tidal locked if it was close enough for anything resembling a standing tide that hight at the black hole's side. Nm they can climb back out of the higher than earth gravity and the black hole's gravity well with that little lander :p |
Neil Degrasse Tyson : The planet is spinning on its axis. At the same time, it is revolving very close to the black hole. The part of the planet that is facing the black hole at any given time is being pulled towards the black hole. The part pulled up is essentially water in the shape of a giant wave. The wave seems like it is traveling around the planet. But essentially, it is the surface of the planet moving UNDERNEATH the wave as the planet is spinning.
also there are many types of planets they even found an ice planet but no ordinary its actually burning ice like in a Zelda game
but yeah probably the wave was too high indeed but movies you know eye candy, drama etc..
interstellar is closest to the real thing as we ever got to see in movies kip thorne is also the producer and he made sure everything made sense from a scientific perspective.
